Behavioural Characteristics of Neonates and Preemies

Each and every newborn is a unique gift from the Almighty. As you may have seen there are different characteristics that a newborn could possibly have… Some babies may have thick hair growth all over the body, while some may not. Some babies will roll over between four and six months. They usually sit up on their own and begin to crawl between six and nine months. They often begin to walk in ten months to one year. Most babies' motor and behavioral development follows an identical path, with a little time variation in certain milestones. Preterm birth with very low birth weight is a relevant risk factor both biologically and psychosocially in child development. Preterm and very low birth weight infants experience multiple stressors in the neonatal period, such as extended exposure to light and noise, acute and chronic illness, maternal separation, painful invasive procedures, excessive handling, and multiple medications. Children who are born preterm are more vulnerable to a range of problems related to cognition, attention, learning, and behavioral outcomes. Behavioral assessments of children who are born preterm exhibit more somatic complaints, emotional symptoms, hyperactivity, conduct problems and peer relationship problems than full-term babies.

We will upload the various psychological disorders in preterm babies in detail in the upcoming days.
